A Monster and a Teddy Bear

I will be the first to admit our dogs have more toys than they need.

The least intense game of tug-of-war ever.

And Moses isn’t one of those “toy-destroyers”, either.

They get dirty, mangled, chewed up, de-stuffed, but are still in suitable “play condition”, and we’ve never thrown one out.

Moses the day we got him - this toy is still in commission.

Which means we just accumulate more dog toys over time.

So, when we adopted Alma, of course we bought a couple more.

Despite our growing collection, Moses has always had one toy in particular he favours.

Moses' favourite toy is NOT the elephant.

Moses’ favourite toy is not even a dog toy, but a teddy bear he adopted early on as his own.  And we consented.

Over the years, the teddy bear has been de-stuffed, lost its head, survived a trip or two through the washing machine, yet it remains his favourite.

We’ve always rotated the rest of the toys, but the teddy bear is perpetually out.

Moses and his teddy bear

And it’s not that he even really plays with his teddy bear.  He does what you see above – and that’s pretty much it.

And yes, it’s stinkin’ adorable.

Alma, on the other hand, doesn’t give the teddy bear the time of day.

But she has also adopted a favourite.

Alma and her monster

Alma’s prized toy is her monster – one of the ones we bought the weekend we adopted her.  It’s actually very similar in a lot of ways to the teddy bear, except that she can pounce on it, toss it around, and make it squeak.

And I knew it was her favourite when I snapped this:

Alma napping with her monster.

And just like Alma with the teddy bear, Moses doesn’t really show any interest in the monster.

Though, I am happy to report that while each dog seems to have a favourite, neither gets bent out of shape if the other shows an interest.

So now a question for you:  Do your pets have any favoured toys?

The teddy bear and the monster - just waiting to be played with. Like a crusty, drooly version of Toy Story.

You are right that is adorable. Stinkin’ adorable! 🙂

The Golden we had before the Chessies never destroyed his toys. He was 13 when we lost him and he still had the first stuffed toy we bought for him. It was in perfect condition, (maybe a bit flatter :)). Then Thunder came along and those toys didn’t last a month…lol.

As for favorite toys, Storm’s is her Kong. Hands down…she lives to fetch a Kong. Thunder doesn’t have a favorite. Anything you throw for him to fetch is OK by him.

  2. We don’t give Our Best Friend stuffed animals as the girls have HUNDREDS that we DON’T want him to chew. Thankfully he never touches them. He loves balls and chew toys. Most die; however, we bought him a rubber tire when we first got him, and two and a half years later, it’s still going strong. (One day I’ll have to post a picture of him with the tire in his mouth– he looks incredibly goofy.)

There is just something adorable about a Newf and their stuffie!!
I just love how they are all nice and plush for a about 15 minutes and then they are nice and crusty!
Sherman and Leroy each have their favorite toy, Leroy’s is a red, plush bone that actually use to be my first Newfs. Sherman’s is his air dog squeaky toy!

Those are the cutest photos I have seen all day. Moses and his teddy bear? I am tempted to make that my desktop wallpaper. Eeeee!

Shiva destroys all her toys. Her favourites are ones that rip the easiest. That elephant you have with Moses in the above photo? She had one of those too. She tore the trunk off, ripped out the stuffing, chewed off the ears, etc etc, until there was just a fabric carcass left behind for me to throw out. About three days later. Oh well. It gives me an excuse to keep buying more!

  5. Oh my gosh – that picture of Moses sleeping on his teddy bear may be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Ty has a tiny little yellow duck that is his favorite toy. Unfortunately, I can only bring it out when Buster’s not around because I’m afraid he’d swallow it whole. Buster doesn’t really have a favorite toy – as long as you can throw it and he can chase it, he’s happy with anything from a ball, to a frisbee, to a stick.

  6. Oh my, how cute are they both with their favourite toys! We have 2 westies and even the toughest of rubber toys end up in shreds before too long. We’ve spent a small fortune on dog toys but recently i tied two old bed socks together and gave them to the dogs to play with. They’re now their favourite toy and we only have to ask “where’s your socks” for one of them to come running up with them ready for a game of tug!

holy cow, Moses and his teddy is super cute.
Gwynn’s favourite toy is a squeaky dog toy he found in the middle of the road (yes, i did put it through the wash after he carried it 5 blocks back to our house). I find it creepy because it’s very similar in colouring to him. It looks like his mini-me, though i believe it’s supposed to be a chipmunk.
