Eight Weeks Later

Eight weeks ago today, this is where we were at:

Moses at the vet after surgery to remove the cyst on his spine.

But now check out where we’re at!

Up and at 'em on a first official walk!

That’s right!

And eight weeks post-op is the milestone we’ve definitely all been waiting for (especially Moses, I imagine), because it means we can begin easing into a walking routine!

So Moses and I went out this afternoon for his first walk in eight weeks.

Still waiting for the fur to finish growing back.

For the next two weeks, we’ll start out with two 5 minute walks daily, and once those two weeks are up, we can slowly start to increase time based on his progress.

Walks resume just in time for fall weather.

And even though five minutes is ridiculously short, it’s still better than nothing, and it was great to get back out with the big guy.

Was going through surgery expensive and stressful?  Yes.  But it was worth it.

And unlike our short pre-opt walks, there was no tripping or scraped knuckles.  He may be a bit clumsy still, but the improvement has been great to see.

I even made a short video to commemorate the first walk back:

What a good day.

and thanks for the video, it was awesome to see the big guy, he looked full of “gheist” to me 🙂 You probably have the most difficulties in trying to keep him from walking more!

Moses (and you) are giving us hope and inspiring us. Our 1 yr old newfie girl, Lorelai, is 1 week post-op spinal surgery for removal of cysts. We are not sure if they are subarachnoid cysts.

At the current time Lorelai remains supine. She is able to move both her head and legs. She had the slight complication of pneumonia which hindered her PT while still in the hospital. Unfortunately we could not leave her in the hospital longer. (2 weeks before Lorelai’s surgery, our Landseer newfie boy, Vinnie bloated and had to undergo surgery also, thankfully he’s fine, but we got hit double time with the surgical expenses).

It appears Lorelai has won her battle with pneumonia, now we are fighting the battle to get her on her feet. Doing minor exercises peddling legs, doing running legs, pulsing legs and any other weird movements I can make her do. Her eyes are bright and her spirit seems strong. I let her get annoyed a bit and fight to move when I much rather be coddling her.

I am hoping you get to read this, I can sure use suggestions from someone who has been there.
