Wordless Wednesday 27: Dogs in Venice

In our recent travels, one of the cities the Husband and I visited was Venice.

For a touristy city with little to no green spaces, I was surprised at the number of dogs – all seemingly with owners.

So beautiful! I hope to go to Venice one day. I guess Venetian dogs just learn to pee on cement ;-)

  4. Jodi says:

Oh, now you have me jealous. Venice is one of the places I would LOVE to visit, and your pictures are awesome.

But with little to no greenery, where do the dogs um….potty?

  5. Excellent photos…love them. That first one of the dog sitting, waiting in the boat…priceless.

I would imagine there are some serious scoop that poop laws in action in Venice.

  7. Will and Eko says:

Based on that first photo it looks like Eko and Penny have a Venetian cousin. Now, I wonder where the pups can play off leash?

    • ThatJenK says:

Well, a lot of the dogs just walked around off-leash. I don’t know what the bylaws are, but if there were any, they weren’t strictly enforced or followed. But if you found an empty square, you were likely to see a couple of dogs playing there. Without any motorized traffic of any kind (not even bicycles), Venice is a pretty safe place for an off-leash dog to be.

  8. What a fabulous vacation spot. I guess a wagging tail is the universal doggy language.

  9. Great photos! Glad to see that they all seemed to have owners! When we went to Greece years ago, it was shocking – and totally heartbreaking – how many homeless dogs there were wandering around! My friend is there now and she said she’s still seeing a lot of them. :(

    • ThatJenK says:

I’ve never been to Greece (yet!), but I can imagine. I noticed the same thing when we went to Cuba and visited Havana. And the way they deal with the strays there is… not ideal.

  10. That is gorgeous. Would love to visit!

  11. Clowie says:

The photos are lovely. It strikes me that Venice is a city designed for Newfs! They wouldn’t need a gondola!

  12. You’re quite an accomplished dogspotter. :)

And some of your photos belong in a travel brochure. Loved it.

  13. Papoe says:

Beautiful pics. The streets are all so clean.

Great pictures. I guess you would need a dog that is good in a boat if you lived there. :)

  15. Gorgeous gorgeous pictures!!! i would absolutely love to go travelling to a place like that! Thanks for sharing your photos!
