Monday Mischief 25: When the folks are away…

As I mentioned last week, the Husband and I just got back from a nice long holiday abroad.

So, while were off to sites like this:

Brandenburg Gate

…what did Moses and Alma do while we were away?

Well, they both went to hang out with friends.

Moses went to hang out with Crosby and Dion and their family (who you’ve seen here before many times).

Evidently Moses got up to a bit of mischief – the stick chewer got his jowls on a wooden alphabet block and gnawed it beyond recognition. Not sure which letter, but we know who’s responsible for any potential spelling setbacks.

Who, us?

Who, us?

Alma had her time split between two places.

First she was off to hang out with Eddy.

It was at Eddy’s house that Alma managed to get her paws on dinner, snagging a ribeye off the counter!

"Sorry I stole your dinner"

“Sorry I stole your dinner”

Then she was off to stay with her buddy Juniper (who’s also made appearances here before), where, like Moses, she also made BFFs with a toddler, earning herself the name “Malma” and taking a dip in the kiddie pool.

Other than the odd bit of mischief, I’ve been assured they were both good houseguests. After so much excitement, I’m sure Moses and Alma are both finding the usual routine kind of boring.

But it’s definitely nice having such great places for Moses and Alma to stay when we go away – we missed them, but it was so nice to not have to stress about their wellbeing!

  1. I guess Louisiana would be too far for them to come stay with me. I’d LOVE to have them as house guests! I can’t believe Alma snatched a steak. She does not look sorry! Hahaha! Hope your Monday’s mischief is minimal! : )

  2. So nice you have people to take care of them while your away.

  3. Bailey says:

It’s great when you have safe places and caring people to leave your dog with when you are away.

  4. I agree with the other commenters. It is great to have someone you can trust to watch your pets while your away. I don’t travel much, but the few times I have had to go somewhere for a night, my mother has volunteered to watch them. I would ask her to do it long term though BOL!

  5. Mary says:

That’s awesome you have such a great place to leave them.

  6. Do Alma and Moses miss each other when part? Just curious 😉

    • ThatJenK says:

They’re always happy to see one another, but I’m not sure they overly miss each other. But they’re used to being apart since the Husband takes Alma to work with him for weeks at a time, and Moses stays home with me.

  7. Jessica says:

A ribeye! My goodness, Alma will be hoping you go on vacation every week.

I’m fretting right now because I really want to go somewhere and do something, and there’s nothing I can do with Silas. Grump.

  8. Will and Eko says:

Knowing your pups have a great place to stay while you’re gone really puts the mind at ease. Looks like your two had plenty of fun on their own vacations too.

  9. I should share the video of J feeding Zoey from the table. It’s absolutely terrible – TERRIBLE. I had to do some serious reprogramming to keep her from taking food off the table. LOL

    • I can soooo relate, Kimberly! Sam used to do the same thing with our three — and will probably revert back at some point — until the vet said “I really appreciate the financial support from you; but we’re not going to be able to pinpoint the cause of Ducky’s problem until you stop feeding her people food and people junk food.” So far, the only people food she’s gotten since is a little bit of cheddar cheese last night.

    • ThatJenK says:

Ha! In our house, there’s no counter surfing, but that’s only because they don’t get the chance. The dogs aren’t the problem – the cats are! And cats are much harder to train! So all food is always stored away securely.
Of course, that also means Alma doesn’t get many anti-surfing learning opportunities, so she has taken advantage at the (cat-free) homes of others.

  10. Callie’s a counter surfer, too, so I have to make sure I put food out of her reach. And, of course, Ducky has to try to do whatever she sees her big sisters doing. LOL

I have pet sitters for my three; but if I were going to go on an extended trip, I might have to board them with one of the sitters. Since we haven’t won the lottery, I don’t see that happening any time soon.

  11. Mr. N is lucky to have two people who are usually willing to watch him when we’re out of town. Supposedly he usually behaves.

  12. You are indeed fortunate to have folks that understand…especially after a missing ribeye!

    • ThatJenK says:

Oh, we make sure to show our gratitude to those willing to take a big hairy Newf for us! (In the form of reciprocal dog-sitting, wine, and gift cards.)

  13. Love the ‘who us?’ shot. All the pics are too cute! Do they mind going to separate places? And did Alma get sent to the 2nd place for the ribeye infringement? 🙂

    • Meant to say – yes, it’s awesome to have a good, safe place to leave the pups where you dont’ have to worry. Luckily we always trade dog-sitting with my sis. If they can’t take her, we don’t go!

    • ThatJenK says:

Haha, no, the 2 locales were predetermined, but I’m sure her leaving was bittersweet after the ribeye!
I’m not sure anyone would be crazy enought to take both for us for an extended time, so separated is always how it is, and they seem fine with it. Then again, they’re used to time apart, since the Husband takes Alma up to work with him for weeks. And I think Moses relishes going back to being a single-dog for a while, getting all of the attention.

  14. So good that Alma and Moses had such good friends to stay with while you were traveling. I’m sure it made your time more fun not to be worrying about them.

Visiting pups do a good job of training me. Honey doesn’t counter surf so sometimes I get caught when old friend Mr. Handsome is staying with us. I have to remember that not only is he taller than she is, he’s also more food motivated.

Sounds like Moses and Alma did a good job training their hosts to keep an eye on their belongings. 🙂

    • ThatJenK says:

Yep! And it’s definitely reciprocal – when we take in extra dogs, I’m definitely reminded about where I leave my shoes or enforcing no-cat-chasing rules!

  15. Bongo says:

It looks like Moses and Alma had way more fun than I do when my person goes away. She always sends me to the dog hotel because she says I’m such an escape artist. I haven’t figured out how to escape from there – yet. And Juniper looks a whole lot like my neighbor dog Toby. Sometimes I get to go for walks with Toby when my person is only gone for the day.

  16. crazystacey says:

Looks like they had a good time while you were away relaxing. It is so great to have a place for your dogs if you have or want to travel. The peace of mind you have knowing they are safe allows you to enjoy your vacation or do the work you need to do without constant worry. Hope you had a wonderful trip and are rejuvinated.

  17. harrispen says:

You’re lucky to have friends to watch your beautiful big dogs for you. I know you also reciprocate and watch those pups too.

  18. Novroz says:

So lucky!! I wish I have a place to put my turtles while I am away like you.

  19. Clowie says:

Alma doesn’t look sorry with her tongue out like that! I think she was only sorry that she only got one opportunity!

  20. snoopys@snoopysdogblog says:

A ribeye off the counter, wow, that’s the mischief jackpot! 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  21. 2browndawgs says:

LOL on the ribeye. Alma must have thought you sent her to the Ritz!
